WATERPROOFING TANKING SLURRY
Tanking solution for damp proofing concrete, blockwork masonry and concrete renders where general waterproofing is required.
Hydrobloc+ Tanking Slurry
SkilledBuild's Hydrobloc+ Tanking Slurry is the perfect damp-proofing solution for a wide variety of internal and external areas including cellar and basement conversions, bathrooms, ponds and swimming pools.
Our Tanking Slurry product provides high water resistance, flexibility, salt resistance and good adhesion whilst remaining non-toxic and non-tainting. This product is so versatile, effective and safe that it is even suitable for penguins; having recently been used to waterproof the penguin enclosures at Paradise Park in Hayle, Cornwall.
For further information on this product, see our Tanking Slurry Product Information Sheet.
Installation:
Our Tanking Slurry is supplied as a powder and when mixed with water forms a smooth paste which can be applied by brush or spray directly to concrete, blockwork masonry or cement renders where general waterproofing is needed. The surface to which the Tanking Slurry is applied can be new, old, internal or external but it needs to be structurally sound and prepared so as to have a capillary open structure. After application, if done correctly, the surface will be water tight for the lifetime of the structure.
To create a complete waterproofing tanking system, this Tanking Slurry should be used in conjunction with HydroBloc+ Junction Fillet and HydroBloc+ SealPlug. For further information on this 3 product system and for detailed installation guidance, please see our Tanking Slurry Product Information Sheet.

How To Waterproof Your Pond Using Tanking Slurry
-
Thoroughly clean and prepare surface to have a capillary open structure.
-
Repair any large cracks and other defects on the surface (repaired areas should be left at least 24 hours before coating).
-
Remove all timber battens or fixings before treatment starts (remember to also make provision for re-fixing of battens etc. before applying the tanking slurry).
-
Mix the tanking slurry powder with water to form a smooth paste. The recommended mixing ratio is approximately 5 parts Hydrobloc+ Tanking Slurry to one part clean water by volume.
-
Apply the paste directly onto the surface of the structure. Apply two coats of the tanking slurry over the whole area. The second coat may be applied as soon as the first becomes ‘touch dry’. In all cases the second coat must be applied within 24 hours of the first.
This is only a short overview on how to use the product and does not cover all the necessary points. Therefore, please click the 'Product Information Sheet' link below for more information.
-
Protect eyes and skin from contact. Freshly mixed Tanking Slurry is alkaline, the use of our recommended gloves and eye protection is suggested.
-
Powdered products should be handled to minimise dust formation. In a confined area or if excessive dust is formed than our recommended mask must be worn.

Is Hydrobloc+ Tanking Slurry safe to use in fish ponds?
Yes, in fact it is one of the few waterproofing products which can be safely used in fishponds. There is no need for liners or pond paint and the fish can be introduced the day after application.
Can I apply the Tanking Slurry to a dry surface?
Hydrobloc+ Tanking Slurry performs better on thoroughly dampened surfaces, only then is its maximum penetration achieved. Dry surfaces should be saturated with clean water, preferably 24 hours before application of the tanking slurry and then re-wetted just before application.
If my mixed Tanking Slurry material becomes stiff should I add more water?
If this happens do NOT add more water, simply discard the mixture and use fresh material.
How many coats of Tanking Slurry should I apply?
It is essential that you do not apply less than 2 coats of tanking slurry.
When should I apply my second coat of Tanking Slurry?
The second coat may be applied as soon as the first becomes ‘touch dry’. In all cases the second coat must be applied within 24 hours of the first.
How long should I wait before I decorate over the Tanking Slurry?
A period of at least 6 months should be allowed before permanent decoration is considered. During this period only use permeable emulsion paints.
Can I plaster over the Tanking Slurry?
Yes, remedial plaster systems may be used over SkilledBuild Tanking Slurry provided an intermediate bonding compound is employed. Dilute SkilledBuild Ultimate Pro SBR with an equal volume of water and apply to the cured Tanking Slurry and allow to become tacky, but not dry! Plaster may then be applied as normal.
Can I use a de-humidifier in the same room as the newly applied Tanking Slurry?
De-humidifiers should not be used immediately after the application of the tanking slurry as this would arrest the curing system – moist conditions are desirable for a period of at least three days, after which time de-humidifiers may be used to control condensation.
